MANAGED OPERATIONS

Linux server maintenance checklist for business owners

A practical checklist for updates, backups, monitoring, certificates, access, capacity, recovery and operating ownership.

Server maintenance is a repeatable operating process. Updates matter, but so do restore tests, alert ownership, access review and capacity trends.

01

Protect availability and recovery

Monitor service health, resource pressure, storage growth and certificates. Confirm that backups complete, then periodically test whether required data and configuration can actually be restored.

  • Uptime and health checks
  • Disk, memory and load trends
  • Backup success and restore evidence
  • TLS and domain renewal dates
  • Documented incident contact
02

Maintain access and software deliberately

Review administrative accounts, SSH keys, firewall rules and unused services. Schedule security and application updates with a validation and rollback path instead of applying unknown changes directly to production.

03

Create an operating record

Record important services, owners, renewal dates, dependencies, maintenance windows and recent changes. Useful documentation reduces recovery time when the usual operator is unavailable.
