Amazon SES reduces transport operations; PowerMTA provides deeper routing control. The right choice depends on the team's operating capacity and real sending pattern.
Compare operating models before features
MailWizz remains the campaign layer in both designs. The decision is whether AWS should operate the underlying delivery service through Amazon SES or whether your team should operate PowerMTA and its supporting infrastructure.
Start with ownership: who will monitor queues, events, complaints, upgrades, security and incidents after launch?
Use SES when lower operating overhead matters
SES fits many AWS applications and lean campaign programmes because the transport layer is managed. The team still owns domain verification, suppression, event processing, access control and responsible audience practices.
- API or SMTP delivery inside an AWS environment
- Moderate or variable volume
- A small team without dedicated MTA operations
- Clear bounce and complaint event processing
Use PowerMTA when justified control is essential
PowerMTA is appropriate when approved traffic needs deliberate vMTA, IP, queue and provider-policy control and the organisation can operate that control continuously.
Do not select it merely to add IP addresses. Document message streams, volume, consent, identity, feedback and the daily operator before choosing the transport.
